First thing I did this morning was write this in my todo text file:

No livejournal checking or GB until 2 pm.

Result: Kitchen, bathroom, living room considerably neater. Though cleaning the bathroom is hell on my knees, and I don't know what I'm doing. Considered hiring a professional.

WHAT drastic reactions?

I don't do bathrooms anymore. It warns on the bottles that mixing one cleaning solvent with another cleaning solvent can cause 'drastic reactions' and the 'evil' curious side of me just keeps wanting to do it just to find out what a 'drastic reaction' might be. I hired a professional. Much safer for me and the entire neighborhood. But hey, I admire your will power in sacrificing computer for cleaning time. I'll have to try it one day. Maybe.

chemical experimentation...
yeah yeah... one day a while back, when i was still young and learning about all those cleaners (read highly dangerous chemicals) they sale in most stores, I was cleaning my bathroom and huh I actually got a "smoke" reaction mixing a few things (don't recall what the hell I used then) but after that, that was the end of it. Now I have actually learned to make my own earth friendly highly efficient cleaners...
live and learn..
;)

Heh. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do things wrong, and you'll get chlorine gas - and then you just won't care anymore...

Haven't you seen "The Incredible Shrinking Woman"? Seeing that at an impressionable age was enough to restrict me to one cleaning product at a time in pretty much the entire house.

Actually I never watched that particular movie, although I have heard about it and caught parts of it here and there. SO THAT is how she got however tall she was. It doesn't matter. I'm still wondering if the reaction makes something like the really cool volcano reaction that we did in science class. What was that combination. Baking soda and vinegar,I think. Whatever. I STILL DON'T do bathrooms. CJ

I need to do that. :\ I already cleaned the bathroom though! It was extra bad on my knees, because what caused me to clean it was this sudden urge immediately after I departed the bath water, therefore forcing me to clean it in the nude. Hey, at least I didn't get my clothes dirty =)

I, too, didn't have anything between my knees and the floor. And that's all I'm going to say about THAT.

not sure if that was me you were talkin' about...
but anyways you wouldn't want me to rely on your bathroom cleaning, that's probably one of the few things i really have issues with... have considered hiring cute boys for the job for interesting comp in exchange... but well... that didn't work so well either ;)

yeah i've got a "bathroom" problem as well.
for me i realised it has more to do with the fact that i don't like heavy cleaning, so if i keep up with it all is good. if i skip a few times in turns into war zone and keeps on getting worse until i can't stand it anymore.
then we are talking, bleach, mask wearing and big fat gloves....
so key for me is keep up...

My problem is a combination of procrastination and impractical perfectionism. I'm sitting there with an old toothbrush cleaning the soap accumulation out of the little lines in the faucet trim for an hour, while there are five empty bottles of conditioner sitting around the edge of the tub which I may never get around to throwing out because I'm too busy detailing the sink.

Today I did good, though. I only cleaned it up until it was "nice". Not "perfect", though the temptation is strong. I couldn't stop myself from wiping down the wall sills.

cleaning = therapy

the kitchen is the place i'll go to cleaning perfectionist borderline cleaning obsession with...
don't know why...
sometimes i'll start with the sink and 2 hours later i am lost in the depth of the oven...
i have to say for me it's better than therapy, when i am done i feel so much better about a lot of stuff. the more i clean the kitchen the more i resolve things up there in the thinking box.

You do belong to a very "sophisticated" civilization, aren't you?
All you need to clean the house without much of chemicals are BAKING SODA and WHITE VINEGAR.From time to time you may need some tar soap- but 3 of those are making miracles and would not poison you. Such a shame that american stores are filled with chlorine(!) bleach.

I would've never thought to combine cooking supplies to clean my house, though I'm sure they do that at least some places in America. I can't really speak for my whole country. It is a big, weird place.

I'll give it a try, though. I have baking soda and vinegar, I don't have any bleach.

I've learned to use @baking soda and white vinegar@ in your country, dear.

In Germany and Russia where I lived before -there was a better and bigger choice of non-toxic cleaners. Anyway- I am sure you could find at www.Google.com all the use for baking soda- as I found. If not- do not hesitate to ask- would be glad to share the joy of non-toxic cleaning with you :-)

Fuck it man, just buy a pressure washer. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.

You won't mind re-caulking all the seals every few weeks or so, right?
