UI runs out middle of this week. Extended benefits are no longer available in WA because unemployment isn't GROWING at the same rate as it was last year. As of a week ago.

I sure am getting a lot of email from job places I'm sending queries to, but they're all the automated "THANX FOR THE FREE REZUME HE HE HE" type.

Uh, if any of you friends know of a job opening for a programmer with 5 years of professional experience with web applications, network monitoring, with requirements that have to do with Perl, Java, C++, n-tier architectures, and XML - come to think of it, SOAP and Web Services, too - please, send them my way. Especially in the Seattle area.

It scares me that someone with your ski11z can't find a job. That is a bad sign. Maybe you should move to India--I bet there are a lot of programming jobs to be found THERE.

Funny, isn't it, that having a job gets you ski11z? It's a chicken/egg paradox, if you need experience to get a job. What really matters is your "friends list".

There are a bunch of jobs that are right up my alley in DETROIT. MIGHT AS WELL CASH IT IN NOW, BABY.

No, people just work on it for FREE. I do have the livejournal code here at home. If I worked on it for free for several years, maybe I could join their paid senior staff! Or no, maybe my work on it would suddenly cease at the end of next month when I run out of money and sell my computer for food.

You could always think of this as an opportunity to take off around the world and see where you get to.

Also, your current music rocks and should be worshipped.

You know, you're right. I could think of it as a time when I ditch all I've collected here and book it for the old world. But I'm trying to do something!! Here!@%!# I am right in the middle of something, Ray!

I don't have a portfolio, but I'm pretty decent with photoshop, web technologies, and blizzard's product catalog. I would do my best to convince them to hire me... but that position is in Irvine! California! Not as ugly as Crescent City, but gives it a run for the money, pop dawg.

J-bot? Oh, by all accounts it was the perfect place for him to work. Blizzard is hiring 2D artists! You and [info]glidoler should sign up! Except that they are SO SELECTIVE THEY NEVER HIRE ANYONE.

Do us a favor. Before sending in your resume, ask yourself if you really want to work in the video-game industry.

No.

Welp, that's taken care of.

I don't know what the problem is with these big companies. In my experience, it seems if you have a job, they are always offering you an opportunity to leave and join them, but if you don't have a job currently, they don't seem to want to give you the time of day. You have a lot going for you. I might be able to help you out, but Lousiana is a long way from Seatle, so I doubt if you're ready for such a long distance change. Hang in there. My best friend went through all his employment checks and just when he thought it was hopeless, he got a great job offer with a sinful salary. Now he swaggers around like he is hotshit, and I could kick his balls since I know how desperate he was before this offer came through. Sorry, a little rant never hurt anyone. I hope you manage to stay a little humble with all of us when that awersome job does come through for you. It's all good. CJ

Yeah, you are most hireable when you already have a job. Clearly, you are in demand if someone is ALREADY PAYING YOU. Kind of like that girlfriend thing where once you're not single anymore, everyone's interested. WAH TEH FUH

And as for me getting caught up in my own hype - never happen. I have a hard enough time admitting to a pretty good track record when I'm trying to get hired. Hmm, probably one of the mistakes I usually make when interviewing - not forthcoming with accomplishments. Oop, did I say mistakes? I meant OPPORTUNITY-takes!

We're hiring a network administrator.

Pluses: I'd get $500 for referring you.

Minuses: You'd have to move back to Oahu, and you know how much I love working here...

Know what the first employer on my resume is? Hint: It's the LAST one that would be on yours, if you wrote a resume today. Of course, they've since changed hands, turned purple, grew hair, etc. But still. Same name.

If you're interested, I could tell you about the spreadsheet we wrote that delineates the exact week that Hawaii Online becomes unprofitable, based on our customer attrition rate in March 2003. You could be around for the end of it all!

Come home, Andr00. It's time. V'ger calls.

I was a casualty of the 5th largest bankruptcy in history. I am STILL trying to lose the stench of death from THAT. 5th largest? I guess 6th largest, after Conseco went down. Hey weird, 5 of the top 10 happened that same year. (data)

Anyway, thanks - I love being flushed down the toilet as much as the next guy - but I'm staying here. even if it means testing, QA, or support. GREATLY ENJOYS REPETITIVE TASKS

That would explain everything.

Yay! Mine runs out next week! Yay!

Course, I'm obligated to pay rent for February. And the car folks want their money.

I have a backup plan, but cross fingers for the job in Idaho or the job in England or Germany.

As my landlord said, "Can't you find a job here?"
Um, that answer would be "no." Everyone here in telco is trying to downsize. Everyone here in Sysadmin has 8000 people gunning for the job, all the downsized people.

So, the answer is, pack and move. Which, as you know, I've done many times before (:

I don't care where I am, just pay me. Oh and don't think I'm going to be one bit apologetic about helping the customer if you're my manager and you say not to. That would be a ton of "fuck you" from me. And if it gets me fired? Hey, guess what? I can actually find another job, it may just mean i have to move. Whee. Can't hold that shit over my head.

So, anyway, yes, good luck, and sorry yours runs out before mine. That sucks.

Ok, well I do like working, but I had to solve the eviction problem first. Maybe after MY band has a killer website..
