The hugs counter is briefly offline for optimization after spiking my server load at 205.

205. That's a number. A number of no significance since I don't understand server load, but I find that from the context "jesus fucking christ", I get a sense of it being a bad number.

That number is average number of processes waiting to run. Normally server load floats around between 0.5 and 2. If it gets over 3, I start noticing slowness. Probably what happened is that so many clients connected that zero ran out of memory and started swapping memory to disk, causing delays, causing more requests to pile up, leading to me having to sit there waiting five minutes for everything.

This is all aggravated by the hugs things consisting of very flippant perl. I am re-coding them as compiled FastCGIs.

I do see that now. You know, you used to be number one hugs haver? But these three seem to have been having a little war these past few days... that first number is no. of hugs. If anyone else starts freaking out like that I'm gonna have to start velocity checking them.

I have this intuition that a punches in the face counter would be ten times more popular than a hugs counter. I'll do it when I think I'm up to the scalability challenge.

my hug button wont work when after you click it, and it says add more hugs, and you click it it goes to a page that says "You are not authorized to view this page"

why? It sucks.

I love my hug button.

That was because I accidentally made it try to use my test version of the hug button, while I was making it limit hug rate, and no one but me is authorized to use it. Sorry! You get the first hug, at least.
