Someone just emailed me about black dental floss, which I mentioned who knows how long ago. Too bad they emailed me from an AOL address, had a link in the email body, and started their message with "Check out this site". It sure did get filtered into the spam folder. If I weren't so sensitive to the issues of dental floss and the different colors it doesn't come in, I never would've seen it. Thanks, aol guy, but I already knew about the black dental floss.

Stupid, right? Unless you really hate the sight of blood or whatever on your floss. I guess that was the reasoning behind black tampons/pads, which seem to have quietly disappeared from the female hygiene aisle since the last time I accompanied someone there.

Or, maybe marketing REALLY THOUGHT that the goth(22a) demographic would go so far as to buy black floss/black unseeables. Just for the sake of blackness.

Oh wait, I guess they'd be less visible through garments, if you're wearing that kind of garment.

ok gonna stop thinking about it now

I thought black pads were for people who wore black (or dark) underwear and clothing. Because it's embarrassing to be in a club with a black light, doing some crazy dance step, with your feminine hygiene product of your choice glowing for all the world to see.

Ah, I was proceeding down that line of reasoning but then decided to stop thinking about it.

The idea behind black pads and panty-liners, as I understand it, is that they are less obvious when you put them in black panties. There are situations in which they might be visible - the edges tend to show sometimes, for instance, or when you take your pants off in company - and it'd be "nicer" for them to be better camoflaged in your black undies. Another thing springs to mind - an exotic dancer in a club that has UV lighting... now imagine her menstrual pad shining brightly through her black lace thong.

There is no benefit to wearing a black pad if you have light-coloured undies, however.

As for black tampons, I never saw them and I'm sure I would have noticed if they sold them anywhere near me. North America, in my opinion, is woefully undersupplied in tampon varieties. Where are the unbleached cotton ones, dammit! I feel icky sticking that much dioxin up me.

I was starting to think about that but then on purposely derailed myself, because that way lies product ideas like "opaque foil undie shield" and stealth camo adult diapers.

See, why not just make "nude" colored - ok ok not thinking about it, serious.

I can't imagine that an exotic dancer would wear a sanitary napkin while on the job! Surely that's when a tampon should be used!

A lot of people don't like using tampons for various reasons. There are also health risks in using tampons when all you have is light spotting (like at the tail end of a period, or if you're on the pill or depo which can have spotting as a side effect).

I used "exotic dancer" specifically rather than "stripper" because the former usually means "doesn't take off all her clothing". If she's going to be keeping her undies on, why not use pads or panty liners if they are available in suitable styles/colours to be invisible?
