I am starting to think of software as being like a tower made of uncut boulders. The boulders are like the big, elegant subsystems that are self-contained, fast, and take care of themselves. Then there's a bunch of mortar involved to fill in where the boulders don't really match up. Better software has boulders that are more or less shaped the right way to fit together with barely any mortar. And then there's those languages which sort of encourage building towers out of just mortar.

Oh yeah training ride. So, here on out, I'm riding at least 100 miles every weekend. Wednesdays are 20 mile "sprint" day. Today I found out that it's very easy to bust off the little pin that keeps all the air in a presta valve, dammit. Being tired this way is very weird. Body tired, brain not. Opposite of what I'm used to.
