Yesterday: "Huh. Lots of port 1433 traffic in the packet log."

Last night: "That's weird. Sporadic connectivity to many places. Ah, it's probably my ISP. It's not like the whole INTERNET gets screwed up very often."

This morning in email:
"Last night, Friday, January 25, 2003, the Internet experienced a massive, worldwide Denial of Service attack. The attack was caused by a new computer 'worm' known as Sapphire which exploited a known vulnerability in Microsoft's SQL database server program. It is believed the worm originated in Asia or Europe, but its effects were felt around the globe."

This morning on the phone:
"Hey man, I just wanted to call to find out if I did anything really embarassing last night. I mean, I was pretty drunk and I wondered if you remembered anything funny going on."

Hi, me! That traffic you see on TCP 1433 is ANOTHER exploit, not related to the MS-SQL problem, which is observable on UDP 1434. You just didn't see it because you don't log unwanted UDP traffic because there is so much of it.
