who's next? RMS? Carmack? Fabio?
Some hip San Francisco club owner named [info]jwz has a livejournal.
I was going to then muse about how funny this is because of how intrinsically unhip livejournal is, but then I realized that although it is free, it has no banner ads, it does not cause browser windows to pop up everywhere, and it doesn't bother you with email about sending money or getting your friends to join. It is a non-offensive website which provides a free service. No ads! WTF man, that's a rare damn thing these days. So I guess that backfired and I have to say the livejournal is a well behaved website. I think good behavior should be validated, so I'll pay again... when I get paid. again.

Uh, dude, jwz rox.

Of course I would say that cuz he's an Amiga person.

But he also is an emacs person. Hell for a while he was mister emacs.

And he's the dude behind xscreensaver. Which has bsod. Which has the Amiga guru meditation. Which rules.

I take points away cuz he was involved with nutscrape, but, well, he was involved when they weren't completely crap.

Basically, I discovered he had a journal and went "BITCHIN!!!!"

It was kinda like when someone else showed me it in the first place.

You make yer own cool anyway.

(Jamie is the kind of person who makes hackers look cool, unlike Stallman, who is the antichrist's left hand.)

I am surprised because jwz seems like a guy who would be busy doing something else all the time, like rms (who is busy sharing the software), Carmack (who is busy writing BOOM or ZOOM or something), and Fabio (who is busy killing birds with his face).

So, should I now tell you why I think farbrausch is cool? No really! Their demos are awesome - perfect sound synchronication, teeny-tiny intros in full 3-D, best generated textures I've ever seen... yeah, you know, you should really check them out. Seriously.

I think he got sick of it all, had the cash, and said "screw it."

Farberware? Who?

Well, I'm not surprised that he owns a club, I'm surprised he's on livejournal. It's just a surprising thing that causes me surprisedness.

I used to have a crush on jwz back when he was at Netscape. (Crush, in the crushing-on-a-celebrity sense. Not in an actual I-Like-This-Boy-and-Want-To-Marry-Him sense.) He has (or at least he used to) have a non-lj website as well.

He has a couple of non-lj websites. In fact, his personal website (the one that the quasi-URL about:jwz used to take you to) is the very first website I ripped off HTML from, back when I had to do that (the "whack/unwhack" javascript).

I guess it's not clear from my posting that I had idolized this guy, copied his website color scheme and everything, and spent large portions of time making xscreensaver hacks run in windows because he made em.

No, that was kinda missing.

Xscreensaver rules.

It's kind of like the demoscene, except for people with no sense of realtime effects for the art of it all.
