My sister keeps me company when I'm at work, via YIM. She's at law school in Jersey. She said something about coffee, and I had a brief moment of civic pride, thinking "hey.. Seattle has claim to being snobby about coffee!" Definitely, I didn't know or care about the fine points of coffee before living here.
But every region has its own specialty. In Hawaii, it was beaches. It's really hard for the locals here to take me to the beach - somehow they sense my disappointment. I must make a face when I see them. They're not so much beautiful wonders of nature as places where land and water compete for territory. The product of erosion there is not white sand, but coarse gravel. Dang, I didn't mean to go all beach snobby. Sorry. Great coffee here. Anyway, I asked Beanie what she finds herself getting snobby about in Jersey, being a longtime resident of Oakland. "Crystal meth?" Very funny, bean.
I suggested street crime, but then I remembered that older african dude who was walking around in pioneer square when two frat-like guys tried to mug him. They threatened him and demanded money. He said, "How you gonna rob me? I'm from DC!" and proceeded to beat the living hell out of one of the would-be muggers while the other ran for his life. They must have really good muggers in DC.
