    SUNDAY UPDATE MANIA
    Alright, so I'm on extended unemployment now, which means that I report to the feds, who want 4 job contacts a week, and they want em NOW. I'm not really sure how to explain that my contacts were all at the same company, since they don't care about their names. I'm tempted to invent slightly different company names for each person I had to talk to separately, since there are enough for two weeks of filing.

    I probably won't be on benefits for long. I'll get a job and that will be that. Kris quit his job, which is good, because he didn't really like being in the getting-fucked-in-the-ass business. We're both in the "getting another job" business, which is relatively ok.

    Uh, what else to post... oh, I totally got presents!
    Brett got me White Noise, by Don DeLillo. A good book. Won the national book award!

    Ed got me How to solve It, by G. Polya. A little book about problem solving. Pink!

    Helen's Aunt got me a Barnes and Noble gift card.
    I can get mochas there while I read books without buying them!

    Helen got me Metroid Prime, by Retro Studios. So much for finding a job this year!

    Decide to write custom data handler module in perl ->
    decide to check if others have written already ->
    find C++ class which handles data ->
    attempt to adapt to perl module ->
    learn about XS ->
    learn about SWIG ->
    Implement partial interface ->
    discover that C++ class is written in a manner not easily used through SWIG-generated interface ->
    think about re-writing C++ class to better fit interface ->
    decide to write custom data handler module in perl.

    I think I'm just impatient with other people's things.

    I should submit a module to CPAN to satisfy interviewers, who give a shit about such accomplishments.

    Yesterday I helped Ed and Karen return the chairs they had borrowed from an Argosy (arrr!) cruise boat (since I am currently "station wagon guy" among my immediate friends). The chairs were nautical themed, which means "trimmed with rope". While there, we hung out in and around the Harborview restaurant. We were stuck outside for a while before it opened, so we tried to come up with hotel side activities. First, we considered making fun of the various boat names around the docks, but it turns out beating dead horses is not very fun nor challenging. We settled for inane commentary on the strange fountain out front (called "the president's waterfall") which strongly resembles a stage in the waste water treatment plant back in Kaneohe. (there's a little swimming-pool ladder into the water, in case you feel like taking a dip in the greasy, opaque harbor water)

    Maybe today I'll get a glue gun and some rope and make my car or living room "nautical theme".

    Current Mood: ROPE-TASTIC
    Current Music: Iiiii have a little dreidel, I made it out of clay

    Since most of my webpage was created around 1997, I thought it might be about time to re-do it, especially since I could apply a bunch of saleable skills which I need to be sharp with in the ol job market. This required some thought towards what I'd want on my website in the first place. Why even have a personal web page?
    why indeed? )

    I'm not really sure how I got this fried rice to wind up tasting like coconut. There's no coconuts within ten miles of me.
