My sister keeps me company when I'm at work, via YIM. She's at law school in Jersey. She said something about coffee, and I had a brief moment of civic pride, thinking "hey.. Seattle has claim to being snobby about coffee!" Definitely, I didn't know or care about the fine points of coffee before living here.

But every region has its own specialty. In Hawaii, it was beaches. It's really hard for the locals here to take me to the beach - somehow they sense my disappointment. I must make a face when I see them. They're not so much beautiful wonders of nature as places where land and water compete for territory. The product of erosion there is not white sand, but coarse gravel. Dang, I didn't mean to go all beach snobby. Sorry. Great coffee here. Anyway, I asked Beanie what she finds herself getting snobby about in Jersey, being a longtime resident of Oakland. "Crystal meth?" Very funny, bean.

I suggested street crime, but then I remembered that older african dude who was walking around in pioneer square when two frat-like guys tried to mug him. They threatened him and demanded money. He said, "How you gonna rob me? I'm from DC!" and proceeded to beat the living hell out of one of the would-be muggers while the other ran for his life. They must have really good muggers in DC.

Beanie: just went to a "panel discussion" on the use of force in iraz
Beanie: oh look I made a new country

how did you know "make-me-laugh" was in my interest list? HAhahaha. and yeah, one would have to make peace with the so-called beach when you're raised on the sandy stuff that feels good under bare feet and between the toes and stuff.

You know, the stuff I'm thinking about never seems funny until it's written down. But that's why I like using YIM, because then I get to see how funny something looks taken out of the context of everything else I'm thinking about.

Um. They could be just wondering why you named it anything. We should be very concerned about what the people at work are wondering every single second! Because...gosh, I have no freaking idea, androo! hee

People won't mention mexican food around me. They won't suggest mexican restaurants. It's kind of disappointing to have to look online for recommended mexican food up here. Eesh.

Yeah, it's pretty slim pickings up here, I gotta say. Best mexican food I ever had was at Bandito's in Moab. Wow! Holy crap! Maybe that's typical for places that aren't in the Northwest? Oh well. We've got good fish, too.

All you need to do is move to New York. I think the thing about NY NY is that what is good there is EVERYTHING. I dunno, gotta check it out.

It's worth checking out. I was going to go to Cooper-Union to finish my art degree at one point and had a blast living there again briefly, very (about a month). Tres expensive but if you can afford it (BY ALL MEANS)...I miss the Metropolitan so much. You should have lunch there, (at the Met's dining room place thing whatever) with Helen if you guys do check it out. The curried chicken salad something was fabulous but I don't know if you guys are into poultry. The gift shop has some beautiful things Helen might like.

But the City has so much to do and see; the people watching is awesome. Try to see the Cathedral place in Harlem (Gawd, what did I do with my guidebooks for these places my brain is freezing on even though I was born there, more or less) Just go and don't forget their fish market place! blah blah blah

The muggers in DC are quite good. If you're lucky, they'll only wound you. Wait, why is it that I want to live near there again?

being raised in Eden, Utath... 10 minutes form Salt Lake City... i consider myself a snow board park conosuier (hope i spelled it right)... i sign up gladly on all ski trips... but i am nasty to everyone, as the slopes are all blues...

also, i learned a lesson from you! during the phase of renovation on yer flat how you had no power, i made a note in my head about that...

then i thought of how the hurricans are coming, and can potentially knock out power... so i went out and bought 7 APC units with battery back up... i had power for 3 days straight... that is a lot of Tekken 4...

Wooo hooo! I am so glad that my example served as a warning. 3 days of tekken 4 is sure a lot. You could've cooked food, too, but that's why there's OREOS

Oh yeah! I have caught myself in moments of steak and barbecue pride. Also Whole Foods and... uh... shit.

Having been up here, though, I have been infected by the mountain pride thing. Someone had pics up of Mount Tremblant ski area, in Canada, and she was like "That's Mount Tremblant! The big one, in the background."

And I was like, "Where? I don't see a big mountain."

I have heard it from all over - southern barbecue kicks ass. That's something I really want to experience someday. Maybe I'll pick up the BBQ habit, get my own fancy weber grill (or whatever is the good one), develop some kind of secret recipe... Yeah! Man I can't wait!

Hmm, I just can't see Hawaiian beaches being better than Oregon beaches.

But maybe that's because both are fantastic beaches and they are fantastic for very different reasons.

I hear there are good beaches in some parts of Australia, too, with really long white shores with 0 dropoff for like 5 miles. Problem with that being that of course you don't get waves then. Not Hawaii waves, Oregon waves.

Anyway, I'm from Chicago, we have pizza. And Italian beef. And hot dogs.

South Florida is a great place to get old and die, or so a lot of Northeners think.

It's also a favorite stomping ground of Hurricanes. There's been too much gossip between them hyping it up and the place is getting overrun. Eventually they'll realize every hurricane and their tropical depressions have visited Florida and it'll become much less cool to make landfall there.

I absolutely loved that story of the older Afrrican from DC...I'm going there in December for a week...I've been there but not for that long...and I usually like to wonder around and check out places, however, I doubt if DC muggers are going to fool with a 'Southern Long Haired Bad Ass' like me. Of course, with all that bragging I've just done...I'll probably get beat up by a 'little ole lady with her umbrella' because I LOOK like a Southern Long Haired Bad Ass" ahahha It's all good. Peace, CJ

The beaches in WA are okay. I went to a beach in I believe it some 'B' town...(Bremerton?) while I was there. I also went into Seattle and checked out some of the little shoppity shops and entertaining homeless people who reminded me of good ol' San Fransisco *sigh*. I can't wait to go back though, WA is so pretty.
