I blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Ahem, sorry. One sometimes gets very self conscious of how tedious and wanky his journal is.

Okay, once again! This weekend was the "RSVP", the triple metric century bicycle ride from Seattle to Vancouver that I did last year with [info]autosloth. This year we were gonna do it again, then things got really busy, then our bikes got stolen. So no. But I made hotel reservations anyway because I just like Vancouver too much to NOT go, and I like the tradition and want to do it (with the ride) next year.

Last year, the second day of the ride included a good 70 miles of pouring rain. At the time, people told me that it doesn't usually rain during RSVP, which happens during the nicest weather of the year. This year, we drove northward as a thousand helmeted heads simultaneously pedaled for the same destination. Then the clouds broke. Second year in a row, the RSVP got soaked! I suppressed feelings of glee and felt bad for missing the ride. The wet, cold, 200 mile ride. Awww. Next year!

We did try to make up some exercise while up in B.C. We did the "Grouse Grind", which is a trail up Grouse Mountain. A very, very steep trail, with multiple signs warning climbers that it is difficult, steep, you're gonna die, blah blah blah. People run up this trail, and trail running is my new hilariously strenuous leisure time activity which staves off early death by heart failure. So we did this! How steep is it? Ok, do this: Stand up straight, and look at a point at the same height as your eyes. Now tilt your head back as far as it will go just by bending your neck, and let your eyes track upwards as your head tilts back, That's where the trail goes, on the grouse grind. It took us an hour and 15 minutes to walk it, 1.8 miles and 2800 feet of elevation gain. No actual "running" occurred, other than a brief sprint for the tram back down. (when the tram popped up over the ridge, it paused, then swayed precariously, provoking a convincing group scream from the densely sardined passengers) Then we went on a bike ride around the city. Doing a couple of exercisey activities one right after the other like this is called "bricking".

Ok, so I related that. Now I am going to sleep, like a brick.

Canada? Oh, it's pretty neat! I can see why some people think Vancouver might be the best place to live. Canada is waking up to its identity as a country, so stuff is getting pretty interesting up there. The ehs and aboats are part of that, and the slight accent can be pretty endearing. Besides, it's not like everyone talks like the mackenzie brothers. Only the grinning guys wearing the lumberjack shirts from way out of the city ("hosers").

Yeah, they had that fireworks show. I missed it (eating at Vij's) but I saw it last year and can't really tell what's different about it, as compared to other fireworks shows I've seen. Other than it being watched by half a million people on the same beach.

I'm talking about Vancouver, BC, you know!

But yeah, it's neat. When you get your own car you should have a little road trip. Bring passport.

1) I just stumbled across your lj via your hug counter. Thanks for the hug counter!

2) You are interesting.

3) Something else interesting, well, to me at least: You are EXACTLY 6 months older than me.

4) All the interesting people live in Austin or Seattle. Ok, there are interesting people elsewhere, but they are FROM or, in spite of their knowledge and/or consent are HEADED TO these two cities.

5) I think I will keep an eye on your lj, if you do not mind.

Hey there! Well it looks like we're friends, then. And as far as interesting people go, well, I hear there might be a couple in New York, but I haven't checked yet.
