Oh right, other thing. I took out the PCI cards from the case one by one, starting with the video card.
After that, I noticed that each card seemed to have a bright red dot on the mounting screw flange. "Huh," I thought, "maybe the guy who serviced it marked them off to identify their order or something." Only: no one but me ever puts hands into the case.

Then I noticed the bright red smear down the anti-static film I was putting the cards down on. Then I noticed the bright red thumbprint on the top rear corner of each card, where I grabbed them to pull. Then I noticed the bright red drop in the center of my palm.

Moral: The fin edges on the video card's aluminum heatsink are sharp enough to draw blood. Lots of blood.

Are you laughing at my pain?! Ok, my pain is funny, I'm all right with that.

Yes that is an important thing to pay attention to. Sometimes. (:

The poor old bodily functions get short shrift so often when competing with stuff like technical doings.

I'm looking through friend's LJs and I saw your entry. I'm sorry for commenting but I know what you mean about the drawing blood. It happened once and it sucked. Mine felt like little paper cuts all over my hands. Sorry again for commenting but :x

Hey, I like comments. I'm all about comments. Comment your head off! Comment until you make yourself sick! Go nuts with comments!

Oh right, later I found all these long superficial cuts along the side of my hand, probably from the same thing. Man, you gotta wear chainsaw gloves when dealing with those things!

It has been my experience that one is not finished with any sort of hardware replacement/transfer until blood has been drawn. I am usually prone to accidentally cutting my hands on case edges (which takes talent being as it's always on a smoothed/rolled over edge).
