brief lunch update
Over the weekend, I was in Vancouver, spectating the marathon and hooting as [info]autosloth passed. There seem to be a lot more skaters there than I remember. And I saw a mountie! She was on foot, though. A footie?

In other news, I find it hard to take the plastic disposable utensil version of the knife seriously. C'mon, how is this better at cutting than say, a comb?

You could start the "whole food" movement, where you can only eat things which haven't been processed by cutting. A whole chicken. a head of lettuce. A salmon.

On the contrary, plastic knives have been known to be rather dangerous..
I raise a plastic knife and challenge your comb!

Hey now! Dangerous and useful aren't the same thing. If I have a big bent 20 pound lead pipe, it may not be particularly useful, but it's still dangerous. OR, better example: a radar-guided missile launcher in your garage. Totally dangerous, but not really useful on a day-to-day basis. I don't doubt your ability to murder thousands of innocents using only a white plastic picnic knife.

my friend Karen back in Minneapolis was at a college event and there were some very hard rolls and the only things to cut them with were shitty plastic knives. Her hand slipped and the jaggedy egde sliced into her palm. She ran to the bathroom (a unisex one) only to find that there were 3 other people who had the exact same predicament.
rather humorous in a strange, small way non?

Humorous enough for work distraction, to be sure. See, that's the problem with blunting tools - it doesn't make them less dangerous, because people will just push harder and harder to use them until something catastrophic happens. Anything is dangerous, given enough force. I mean, really - look what happens when you give joe pesci a ballpoint pen. Or give, oh, Fabio a duck.

Plastic knives don't so much 'cut' your food as they do 'lacerate' it. Unfortunately, they are extremely capable of doing a similar thing to your hand. On par with a paper cut, only not as clean.

I wouldn't recommend it.

You might remember that I'm particularly good at lacerating myself using nothing more than the surface of the road. Hmm.. cutting food by rubbing against the asphalt.. that'd work.

All right, we're all set, then. As a new junior member of my friends list, it is your responsibility to help me keep up to date with young people and their slang and what not. Heard any slang recently? What about that clown dancing thing? Can you tell me whether that's a real trend or not? Thanks in advance! -Andr00

Yeah, you're right, it's not fair to ask you to speak for your generation. After all, my generation really likes a lot of things I don't understand very well. So who's the spokesperson for the current generation?

I dunno. Maybe MTV is? Let's see what they say about
KRUMPING.

DUDE

Have you seen the Oxo "Good grips!" plastic lettuce knife? Or maybe it's teflon, actually. Either way, it's not metal.

Is that the white one? Yeah, what the hell? Now they make PERMANENT plastic dinnerware?

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

The ceramic one?
[info]t0rque

Someone makes a ceramic knife because we all know the one thing knives are lacking in is fragility so why not add that?

Also, ceramic, not being metal, in theory prevents the lettuce you cut with it from immediately oxidizing.

This is a bunch of hooey.

No, it's black!

It's a chopping knife, one of those thick ones.

I saw it the other day at The Bon and I was like, "wtf?"

2 conclusions after a minute of staring at the icon:

1. A fight.

2. A spanking orgy.
