Geez. Because the upstairs neighbors were doing some kind of super low bass thing at 12:30 at night, and I hadn't stuck the pillow over my head yet, I witnessed the reason that my server has been rebooting: UPS overload. All that beeping I've been hearing was that thing warning me that it was on its last legs. Here I thought it was the machine next to it beeping about some kind of hard drive failure (the beeping sounds exactly like the noise when a HD rotor fails to spin up on Quantum drives).
So here's me, not dressed, hauling a 50* pound beeping BP1000 out of the closet at 1 am. One thousand beepies indeed. How much is a replacement battery for these things? Holy crap, it's like $60. And it weighs 20** pounds by itself. Fricking low ass energy densities. I thought this was the future! It's made of, like, solid lead so you can't throw it away. Or rather, you have to send it to a qualified disposal facility. Let's see, the closest one is in.. Warwick, Rhode Island***. FUCK!
I dunno why it is overloading. The power blinked and it started beeping like crazy, and all the computers were dumped. Perhaps the battery is just too old. Perhaps the heat is reducing its ability to cope****. At least the outage made the upstairs neighbors silent. Ha ha, probably halted their video game marathon. Of course, now I'm all pissed off and can't sleep. Guess I'll go hug the neighbors.
*HUGS* TOTAL!
